PITCH SIDE HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SLU got goals in the first and 37th minutes to take the lead they would hold for the second half
  • During the opening half, Karpovich did her best to keep the Rams in the match, stopping shots in the 33rd, 37th and 40th minutes, but the Billikens took a 2-0 lead into the half
  • VCU came out of the gate firing on all cylinders and Bagley got things rolling with a shot that was saved in the 56th minute
  • Kraszula ripped a shot on goal in the 59th, earning VCU a corner, which produced another Rams shot this time from Risher
  • Karpovich came up big again in the 70th and 74th minutes, keeping VCU around as they hunted for the first goal
  • In the 78th minute, VCU was awarded a penalty kick on a SLU foul and yellow card in the box
  • Sarver stepped up and fired a shot that had the keeper going the wrong way, but the SLU keeper kept the bottom of her foot and hand extended just long enough to get a piece and keep the Rams off the board
  • The final minutes ticked away, and when the whistle blew SLU had moved onto the next round, ending VCU's run with a 2-0 win
