THUMP DAY: RAMS BRUSH OFF SLOW START, MARCH PAST DAVIDSON

The short story: Four Rams spiked double-digit kills and VCU filled up the box score with 11 blocks in a road win at Davidson Wednesday night.
 
OPENING VOLLEY
  •  Senior middle blocker Jasmine Knight continued to carve up Atlantic 10 Conference defenses. She blasted 14 kills and hit .385 in the match on 26 swings. She also registered six blocks, including two solos
  • Junior outside hitter Kialah Jefferson provided 13 kills and nine digs for the Black and Gold
  • Senior outside hitter Ana Brangioni and junior opposite Parker Hartzell kicked in 10 kills each. Brangioni added 12 digs and a pair of aces, while Hartzell contributed two blocks
  • Freshman libero Ana Kujundzic scooped up 20 digs for the Rams on the back line
  • Isabel Decker led all players with 15 kills for Davidson
THE DIFFERENCE
  • VCU hit .204 in the match, including .310 and .257 in the second and third sets, respectively, as they rallied from a 1-0 deficit
  • The Rams outblocked Davidson 11-6 and held the Wildcats to a .079 hitting percentage
  • Branginoi ignited the Rams' comeback in the second set. VCU dropped the first 25-21 and trailed 10-8 in the second frame before Brangioni ripped off four kills in a 10-4 VCU blitz to take command at 18-14. The Rams finished off a 25-21 win and kept their good fortune rolling in the third with a wire-to-wire, 25-18 victory

  • VCU is 23-4 all-time against Davidson
  • With Wednesday's win, the Rams matched their A-10 victory total from all of last season
NEXT UP
VCU will return to the Stuart C. Siegel Center Oct. 28-29 for its final homestand of the 2023 campaign. The Rams will host George Mason at 1 p.m. on both days. Sunday's match will also include a pregame ceremony to honor VCU's six seniors.
