WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SIGNS TURKISH INTERNATIONAL DENIZ TORGUT

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Basketball Head Coach Beth O'Boyle has announced the signing of Turkish youth international Deniz Torgut to a National Letter of Intent.

Torgut plays for Turkish club Botas Gelisim Ankara who won the BGL league championship in 2021. Torgut has represented Turkey on the U18 National Team at the European Championships. She has also represented Turkey at various other youth levels.

"We're excited to add a student-athlete of Deniz's caliber to our extremely talented 2022 signing class. Deniz brings international experience playing for Turkey's youth national teams. Deniz is a multi-level scorer who can shoot the three and plays well in transition. She is a great fit for our system," O'Boyle said.

Torgut has helped lead her team to the U16 and U18 Regional Championships in both 2018-19 and 2019-20. In 2020-21 she was part of a team that captured her basketball youth league championship. At the U18 European Championships, Torgut averaged 5.6 points, 1.6 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 13.4 minutes per game.

Torgut is a native of Izmir, Turkey and also served as a team captain.
