HOW IT HAPPENED
- VCU scored four runs in the second inning, the third straight game with a four-run frame for the Rams. - O'Bryan restored the Rams' four-run lead in the bottom of the third, stroking a two-run homer to right center after Selden had singled, making it 6-2.
- Redshirt junior left fielder AJ Mathis legged out a two-out infield single in the fifth, moved to second on Selden's walk, and scored on a single up the middle from O'Bryan to extend the VCU lead to 7-2.
- Freshman Chase Hungate delivered shutdown innings in the fourth and fifth as VCU stretched its lead, part of 4.0 innings of relief work for the right-hander.
