ROBINSON POSTS CAREER NIGHT, RAMS LOSE HEARTBREAKER AT SETON HALL

The Short Story: VCU trailed by 16 points with 6:05 left in the game before mounting a furious rally to get within 70-67 with 5.2 seconds left. The Rams had a chance to tie the game at at the buzzer but Taya Robinson's 3-pointer fell short.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Robinson poured in a career-high 27 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds. It marked the fifth double-double of her career. She also had five assists and two steals
  • Robinson finished her storied career third all-time at VCU with 1,673 career points
  • Madison Hattix-Covington scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds
  • Sarah Te-Biasu had 12 points and three steals with no turnovers
  • Seton Hall was led by Lauren Park-Lane who scored a game-high 22 points

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU and Seton Hall went back-and-forth in a first quarter that had seven lead changes and four ties. The Pirates scored the final four points of the quarter to lead 19-15
  • The Rams trailed the Pirates 21-20 with 7:16 left before halftime after a Chloe Bloom layup but the Pirates slowly pushed their lead to 38-28 after a 3-pointer from Park-Lane. VCU trailed 38-31 at the half
  • Seton Hall pushed its lead to as much as 49-36 in the third quarter with 3:57 left but the Rams wouldn't go away. VCU was able to get back within striking distance at 56-47 heading into the fourth quarter after two Robinson free throws
  • After the Pirates pushed their lead to 65-49 with 6:05 remaining, VCU's defense locked the Pirates down. A Hattix-Covington layup on a Robinson steal jumpstarted a 18-5 run to get the Rams within 70-67 with 34 seconds left
  • VCU forced a shot clock violation on Seton Hall's final offensive possession and advanced the ball out of a timeout with 5.2 seconds left. Robinson shot a 3-pointer from the wing at the buzzer in an attempt to tie the game but her jumper fell short
