VCU UTILIZES BIG SECOND HALF IN WIN OVER ST. BONAVENTURE

The Short Story: The Rams utilized a dominant second half, outscoring St. Bonaventure 44-25 while shooting 55.6 percent from the field, to secure their fifth straight victory.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Sarah Te-Biasu paced the Rams offensively with 15 points, shooting 3-of-6 from 3-point range
  • Janika Griffith-Wallace recorded her first double-double in a VCU uniform with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds
  • Taya Robinson chipped in with 13 points while adding. 8 rebounds
  • VCU capitalized on 16 St. Bonaventure turnovers and outscored the Bonnies 17-8 in points off turnovers
  • Tori Harris led the way for the Bonnies with 15 points and 11 rebounds
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU fell behind 13-8 at the end of the first quarter despite the Rams holding St. Bonaventure to just 33.0 percent shooting from the field
  • The Rams held the Bonnies without a field goal for the first six minutes of the second quarter but were unable to close the deficit and trailed at halftime 24-13
  • VCU went on an a 6-0 run early in the third quarter that was sparked by a Robinson driving layup, closing the gap to 26-17
  • VCU outscored the Bonnies 23-13 in the third quarter, driven by nine points from Robinson and a buzzer beating 3-pointer from Te-Biasu that got VCU within 37-36
  • The Rams opened the fourth quarter on a 10-1 run that was started and capped by a Te-Biasu 3-pointer that gave VCU a 46-38 lead with 6:55 left
  • The Bonnies would get no closer than a five-point deficit for the remainder of the game
