The Short Story:Â VCU took a 34-33 lead with 3:45 left in the third quarter before an 8-0 Charlotte run gave the 49ers the lead for good.
OPENING TIP:Â
- Sarah Te-Biasu scored a team-high 19 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field and 2-of-4 from 3-point range
- Janika Griffith-Wallace scored six points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds
- Mary-Anna Asare scored nine points along with having three boards
- VCU shot 37.5 percent from the field while Charlotte shot 42.9 percent
- The 49ers held a 20-14 advantage in points off turnovers and a 15-9 edge in bench points

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- VCU and Charlotte went toe-to-toe in the first quarter. The 49ers scored the first two baskets before a 6-0 run by the Rams gave VCU the lead on a Bloom jumper
- The 49ers led VCU 16-12 in the first quarter despite VCU shooting 42.9 percent and Charlotte shooting 36.8 percent
- Both teams struggled from the floor in the second quarter and shot less than 30 percent. With the game tied 18-18, Charlotte went on a 6-0 run to take a 24-18 lead with 3:55 left in the second
- Te-Biasu converted a three-point play with 44 seconds left to cut the deficit to 24-21 at the half
- VCU took the lead at 34-33 on a Jennifer Ezeh layup with 3:45 left in the third quarter but Charlotte answered with an 8-0 run to take a 41-34 lead with 53 seconds left
- The 49ers led the entire fourth quarter though VCU cut the deficit to 47-42 with 7:33 left in the game, the Rams could get no closer
