- VCU and Messier held off Wake Forest's early attack as the game remained 0-0 at halftime despite Wake holding an 11-1 advantage in shots
- The Demon Deacons went up 1-0 in the 34th minute on a goal from Ashley Arnold
- VCU was only outshot 5-3 in the second half as the Rams fought hard to stay in the contest
- Gregory tied the game 1-1 in the with 3:51 left on the clock in the fourth quarter
- Wake Forest got a penalty stroke awarded in the 59th minute, with just 1:31 left in the game and Sky Caron converted to give the Demon Deacons the win.
