Lyndsey Gutzmer's goal in the seventh minute set the tone as VCU Women's Soccer cruised to a 2-0 victory over crosstown rival Richmond Saturday afternoon at President's Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the seventh minute, Kershner received the ball along the left sideline, the midfielder pushed forward and crossed the ball to Gutzmer who elevated above the Richmond defense and headed the ball into the top left corner of the net
- Richmond had a chance to respond in the 20th minute. The Spiders earned a penalty, but VCU redshirt-junior goalkeeper Grace Young made a terrific diving save to her left, preserving the Rams' lead
- In the 39th minute, Jerabek charged forward along the left side of the box and struck a centering pass into the box that was knocked into the net by a member of the Spiders' backline
- With a two goal advantage coming out of the break, VCU relied on its defense to close out the contest. The Rams had totaled just two shots 32 minutes into the second half
- VCU had a good look on goal in the 68th minute, sophomore Anna Bagley dribbled up the right sideline and centered the ball to Kershner. The redshirt junior elevated a shot that was narrowly corralled by the Richmond goalkeeper
- In the 81st minute, Jerabek and Guthrie tallied a trio of shots, but each was deflected away by the Spiders' defense
WHAT'S NEXT
VCU will close out the 2020-21 regular season at home on Sunday night when it welcomes George Mason to Sports Backers Stadium. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be available for live stream on ESPN+. The Rams will honor three seniors in a pregame ceremony 10 minutes before the match is scheduled to begin.
