RAMS DOMINATE ON THE MOUND CLAIM SERIES FINALE WITH TOWSON

The short story: VCU Baseball's pitching staff struck out ten and limited Towson to just four hits as the Rams defeated the Tigers, 5-1 Friday afternoon at the Diamond.

FIRST PITCH
  • Rams' freshman Tyler Davis closed out the game with three no-hit innings, striking out six Tigers' batters
  • VCU freshman third baseman Tyler Locklear recorded a pair of singles in a 2-for-4 performance
  • Rams' junior Jack Schroeder went 1-for-4 at the plate, recording two RBI
  • Sophomore Logan Amiss was 1-for-3 with a home run for the Black and Gold
  • VCU freshman Campbell Ellis pitched three innings, surrendering just one hit and earning the win
THE DIFFERENCE
  • VCU got on the board in the first inning when Schroeder singled home junior DH Liam Hibbits, who had singled and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch
  • Towson tied the game in the third off a home run to left field by Jacob Terao
  • Amiss put the Rams back in front with a solo shot to right center in the fourth inning. He drove a Danny Madden curveball over the left field fence
  • Schroeder and senior first baseman Steven Carpenter provided the Rams with a couple of insurance runs in the seventh. The duo each hit into a fielder's choices that plated freshman Connor Hujsak and junior Hogan Brown, respectively
  • Brown capped off the VCU offensive output in the eighth inning, the junior slapped a single into right field that scored Hujsak
  • Towson stranded seven baserunners throughout the game
  • The Rams totaled four stolen bases

  • Freshman Tyler Locklear extended his hit streak to eight games
  • VCU recorded seven hits in the game

VCU will travel to Norfolk, Va. for a matchup against Old Dominion on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in that match-up of former CAA rivals.
