VCU BEATS RHODE ISLAND IN OVERTIME THRILLER

The Short Story: A career night from Taya Robinson lifted VCU past Rhode Island and into its third consecutive Atlantic 10 Semifinal.

  • Taya Robinson scored a career-high 24 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime, and added seven rebounds. Robinson was 5-of-10 from 3-point range
  • Sarah Te-Biasu scored 17 points, going 5-of-11 from the floor, and went 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the overtime period
  • Chloe Bloom recorded her second consecutive double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rhode Island started the game shooting 53.3 percent from the floor and led VCU 20-13 at the end of the first quarter
  • VCU fell behind 24-16 with 8:22 left before halftime but a 14-3 run sparked by a Robinson 3-pointer gave the Rams a 30-27 advantage at the half
  • With the Rams leading 38-36 with 5:09 left in the third, VCU went on a 6-0 run and held Rhody scoreless for the remainder of the quarter to build a 44-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter
  • Rhode Island shot 54.5 percent in the fourth quarter to mount a comeback and forced overtime after Catherine Cairns made two free throws with seven seconds remaining to tie the game at 54-54
  • Robinson drilled a 3-pointer from the wing to begin overtime and gave VCU the lead for god at 57-54 with 4:22 remaining
  • Te-Biasu and Robinson combined to go 6-of-6 at the free throw line to seal the win

VCU will face No. 1 Dayton in the A-10 Semifinals at 1 p.m. tomorrow, March 13, with the game nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
