VCU FALLS AT STETSON

The short story: VCU, playing with two of its top three scorers, fell behind Stetson after the Hatters used a 17-4 run to start the third quarter to take the lead and held off the Rams down the stretch.

OPENING TIP:
  • Sarah Te-Biasu tied her career-high with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting
  • Janika Griffith-Wallace was the only other Ram in double figures with 12 points in addition to six rebounds
  • VCU shot 39.2 percent from the floor and was 5-of-14 from 3-point range. Stetson shot 42.1 percent from the field and 7-of-24 from behind the arc
  • Stetson outscored VCU 16-11 in points off turnovers, 11-6 in second chance points and 20-9 in bench scoring
  • The Hatters were led by Tatiana Streun who had 11 points and nine rebounds
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU trailed 14-8 with 2:35 left in the first quarter before the Rams went on 9-2 run capped with Sam Robinson layup with 17 seconds left. The Rams led 17-16 at the end of the quarter
  • After a slow offensive start to the second quarter, Stetson led 24-19 with 6:34 left before halftime but VCU responded with an 8-0 run capped off by three Griffith-Wallace free throws to take 27-24 lead
  • The Rams held a 29-27 lead at the half, limiting the Hatters to shoot 3-of-12 from 3-point range (25.0 percent
  • Stetson went on 17-4 run to start the third quarter to build a 44-31 with 6:23 left in the third quarter
  • Despite not staying within an eight-point deficit during the fourth quarter, VCU only got as close as 60-56 with 28 seconds left as the Hatters held on for the win
