The Short Story: Down 52-51 with 1:18 remaining, VCU's defense shut down Davidson as the Rams went on a 7-0 run to end the game and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Semifinals.

  • It marks the second consecutive season VCU has reached the A-10 Semifinals and the first time in program history they've done it in back-to-back seasons.
  • Danielle Hammond posted a team-high 17 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. She is one block shy of tying the VCU school record for career blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Wildcats jumped out to a 7-2 lead before VCU responded with a 11-2 run to go up 13-9 at the end of the first quarter.
  • VCU pushed its lead to 19-13 with 7:38 left before halftime but a 7-2 run by the Wildcats allowed them to get back into the game and trail just 21-20. VCU clung to a 25-23 lead at halftime.
  • Davidson retook the lead at 35-31 in the third quarter but a 17-4 run by VCU put the Rams up 48-39 with 9:07 left in the game.
  • The Wildcats responded with a 13-3 run to take a 52-51 lead with 1:18 remaining.
  • VCU made Davidson go 0-of-5 from the field in the final 1:18 and turned the Wildcats over once to seal the win.

WHAT'S NEXT

VCU will play the winner of No. 3 Fordham vs. No. 6 Duquesne in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7. The game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
