RAMS COMPLETE COMEBACK WIN AT DAVIDSON TO CONCLUDE REGULAR SEASON

The Short Story: VCU trailed by 11 at one point during the second quarter before battling back and taking the lead for good as Taya Robinson hit the go-ahead basket with six seconds remaining.

  • Taya Robinson scored a team-high 16 points with five rebounds.
  • Danielle Hammond had 11 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two assists. Her two blocks gave her 76 for the season, setting a new school record for a single season.
  • Madison Hattix-Covington was the third Ram in double figures as she had 11 points and three rebounds.
  • The Rams finished 13-3 in the A-10 for the second consecutive season. That 26-6 regular season mark is the best in the A-10 during that span.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With VCU trailing 11-8, Davidson outscored the Rams 5-1 to take a 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • VCU's offense struggled as the Wildcats pushed their lead to 22-11, their largest of the game with 5:35 left in the second quarter. Davidson led the Rams 25-17 at halftime.
  • The Black and Gold chipped away at the deficit, going on an 11-4 run to close the third quarter and trailed just 38-37 heading into the final 10 minutes.
  • The Rams took their first lead at 41-40 since the first basket of the game on a Hattix-Covington 3-pointer with 8:26 remaining but Davidson answered with a 6-0 run to retake the lead at 46-41.
  • The Davidson lead was 49-43 before a 8-0 run gave the Rams the lead back at 51-49 after Hattix-Covington completed a three-point play.
  • The Wildcats would tie game at 51-51 on their next possession but Robinson hit the go-ahead layup with six seconds left and completed a three-point play to give VCU the lead for good at 54-51.
