The short story: VCU men's tennis closed its season with a 4-0 loss to Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Rams' second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

OPENING SERVE

  • Sophomore Javier Amantegui and junior Vitor Lima were locked in a 4-4 battle at No. 1 doubles when Virginia clinched the first point of the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
  • The Cavaliers secured the victory with wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles.
  • Amantegui started his No. 3 singles match strong with a 6-2 first-set victory over Gianni Ross, but the match went unfinished when Virginia claimed the win.

Although the Rams' season ends with the loss, VCU finishes 2018 with a 16-10 record and a second consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship, having not dropped a match to A-10 opponents all year.
