RIVERO CRESPO CLINCHES WIN OVER UNCW

The short story: Sophomore Ignacio Rivero Crespo won a three-set battle at No. 5 singles to clinch a 4-3 win over a quality UNCW team on Saturday afternoon.

OPENING SERVE

  • The Seahawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the doubles point.
  • VCU responded with three straight singles victories to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Freshman Inigo Torre Martin won his team-leading 15th singles match of the year, beating Michael Copeland at No. 4 singles 6-2, 7-5.
  • Junior Arvid Noren, playing at No. 1 singles for the first time this season, defeated Andres Torres 7-5, 6-1. Junior Vitor Lima then doubled the lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Agustin Savarino at No. 2 singles.
  • With wins at No. 6 and No. 3 singles, UNCW tied the match at 3-3 and made the match at No. 5 the deciding factor. After splitting the first two sets, Rivero Crespo won the decisive third frame 6-3.
