The short story: Despite a strong performance in doubles, VCU fell to NC State 5-2 in a non-conference match on Saturday.

OPENING SERVE

• After dropping No. 3 doubles, the Rams quickly responded with victories at No. 1 and 2 doubles to secure the first point of the match.
• Juniors Vitor Lima and Philip Mobius teamed up to defeat Alexis Galarneau and Tadas Babelis 6-4, then sophomore Javier Amantegui and junior Arvid Noren took down Igor and Ivan Saveljic 6-3. Amantegui and Noren lead the Rams with seven doubles wins this season.
• Mobius notched the lone VCU win in singles play, defeating Georgiy Malyshev in a third-set tiebreaker.
• Lima battled against Galarneau, the 19^th-ranked singles player in the country, but ultimately fell 6-1, 7-5.
