The short story: VCU men's tennis's battle against the Bucs came down to the wire, with freshman Inigo Torre Martin defeating Miguel Este in three sets to clinch the match at No. 6 singles.
OPENING SERVE
- Junior Arvid Noren and sophomore Javier Amantegui continued their undefeated start to the dual season, taking No. 2 doubles 6-4 over Robert Herrera and Tasei Miyamoto. Juniors Vitor Lima and Philip Mobius clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory over the 44th-ranked doubles pair in the country, Frazier Rengifo and Juan Lugo.
- After ETSU took the first two singles points, Noren tied the match at 2-2 with a straight-set victory over Sergi Fontcuberta, 6-4, 6-2.
- Despite dropping the first set, Amantegui battled to a win over Lugo at No. 2 singles by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
- In his first action in three weeks, sophomore Ignacio Rivero Crespo rallied to force No. 5 singles to three sets, but ultimately fell to David Gonzalez. That left the deciding point to Torre Martin, who delivered with a dramatic three-set victory over Este, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
