The short story: Redshirt junior forward Issac Vann poured in a game-high 18 points, and VCU opened up the second half on a 16-0 run on the way to a win over Wichita State Saturday.
OPENING TIP
- Vann scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three-point range in a team-high 32 minutes
- Junior guard Marcus Evans supplied 15 points, five assists and three rebounds in 30 minutes of action for VCU, while sophomore forward Marcus Santos-Silva provided 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks

THE DIFFERENCE
- The Rams started the second half hot, after a Santos-Silva layup sparked a 16-0 run that put VCU on top 53-34 with 12 minutes remaining in the second half. The Shockers never seriously threatened again
- VCU held Wichita State without a point for the first 7:50 of the second half
- After falling behind 7-2 early in the first half, VCU fought back to take a 10-9 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining in the period
