HOW IT HAPPENED
- VCU took an early lead in the 18th minute as Jared Greene scored on a rebound after Haji's initial shot was saved.
- UMass had a chance just under a minute later as Clement Benhaddouche's shot hit the crossbar.
- Ngoh forced a UMass save on his shot attempt in the 37th minute.
- The Rams took a 1-0 lead into halftime and outshot the Minutemen 10-2 in the first half.
- Benhaddouche scored the Minutemen's lone goal in the 53rd minute on an assist from Davis Smith.
- VCU had multiple chances to retake the lead including Ngoh's effort in the 72nd minute that bounced off the crossbar. His second effort drifted just wide of the net.
- The two teams remained deadlocked through both overtime periods and the Rams won 5-4 in penalties after Sequeira made two saves.
