The Short Story: After finishing overtime tied 1-1, VCU's Mario Sequeira made two diving saves during the penalty shootout as the Rams moved on to the Atlantic 10 Semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • VCU took an early lead in the 18th minute as Jared Greene scored on a rebound after Haji's initial shot was saved.
  • UMass had a chance just under a minute later as Clement Benhaddouche's shot hit the crossbar.
  • Ngoh forced a UMass save on his shot attempt in the 37th minute.
  • The Rams took a 1-0 lead into halftime and outshot the Minutemen 10-2 in the first half.
  • Benhaddouche scored the Minutemen's lone goal in the 53rd minute on an assist from Davis Smith.
  • VCU had multiple chances to retake the lead including Ngoh's effort in the 72nd minute that bounced off the crossbar. His second effort drifted just wide of the net.
  • The two teams remained deadlocked through both overtime periods and the Rams won 5-4 in penalties after Sequeira made two saves.

 VCU travels to Saint Louis for the A-10 Tournament Semifinals and will face No. 4 seed Rhode Island on Friday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. EST.
