The short story: VCU men's tennis used three straight-set victories to clinch a 5-0 win over Georgetown to open the spring season on the first day of the VCU 4-1 Invitational.
OPENING SERVE
- In his VCU debut, freshman Timo Zgraggen teamed up with junior Philip Mobius to cruise to a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Peter Beatty and Marco Lam and secure the doubles point.
- Junior Arvid Noren dominated the first set in a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Michael Chen to notch the Rams' second point of the afternoon at No. 2 singles.
- After falling down 4-3 in the first set, sophomore Javier Amantegui won nine of the last 11 games to take a 6-4, 6-2 win over Mark Militzer at No. 1 singles and clinch the match for VCU. Amantegui leads VCU with seven wins on the season.
- Although both junior Vitor Lima and freshman Inigo Torre Martin lost the first sets of their matches, each Ram battled back to take a three-set victory and secure a sweep for VCU.
