The short story: Senior Alica Kandler spiked 10 kills and junior Tori Baldwin registered six blocks as VCU sprinted to its 12th straight victory Sunday, 3-0 over Fordham.
OPENING VOLLEY
- Kandler continued her outstanding senior campaign by hitting .292 to pace the VCU attack. She added two blocks and an ace.
- Sophomore Gina Tuzzolo smacked nine kills and hit .500, while classmate Vicky Giommarini provided eight kills.
- Baldwin, who is well on her way to a third straight 100-block season, also contributed seven kills and hit .417.
- On the back row, senior libero Rebekah Strange supplied 15 of VCU's 30 digs on the afternoon.
- Setters Dajah Ard and Tyler Sroufe handed out a combined 32 assists.
- Kaitlin Morley led Fordham with 13 kills.
THE DIFFERENCE
- VCU's balanced offense was clicking all day. The Black and Gold hit .316 in the match and hit better than .300 in two of three sets.
- The Black and Gold served up seven aces, while Fordham recorded two. VCU has owned an edge in service aces in six straight matches.
- VCU fell behind 13-9 in the second set and trailed for most of the frame, but a kill by Tuzzolo and a series of critical Fordham errors helped the Black and Gold close with a 5-2 burst on the way to a 26-24 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- VCU outblocked Fordham 8-3, continuing a theme of the team's season. VCU is now outblocking its opponents by better than a 2-to-1 (3.26 to 1.62) margin this season.
- VCU improved to 6-0 at home this season.
