The short story: Senior Michal Voscek and freshman Arvid Noren cruised to straight set victories for the second consecutive day to lead VCU past Dayton in the Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinals Saturday in Charlottesville. The Rams advance to face George Washington in the championship match for the fourth straight year.
FIRST SERVE
- Noren was in total control on the No. 5 court. The Pitea, Sweden native blitzed Simon Jayaram, 6-0, 6-0.
- Voscek improved to 17-6 this spring with a victory over Jordan Benjamin on the No. 1 court.
- Junior Catalin Fifea provided VCU's third singles victory on Saturday, with a 6-2, 7-5 effort against Bernardo Sanson on the No. 2 court.
- Noren, Voscek and Fifea all earned wins on the doubles courts as well.
NOTABLE
- The Rams have reached the A-10 Championship Match every year since joining the conference in 2012-13. VCU captured the league title in 2013. Overall, VCU has reached its conference final in nine consecutive seasons and in 20 of the last 21.
- VCU is in search of its 18th conference championships in four leagues (Sun Belt, Metro, CAA and Atlantic 10) in 26 seasons under Head Coach Paul Kostin.
