The short story: VCU scored a singles and a doubles win as it battled 17th-ranked South Florida on the road, but the Rams couldn't hold off the Bulls Saturday in Tampa.
OPENING SERVE
- Freshman Arvid Noren gave VCU a glimmer of hope Saturday when he ran past Vadym Kalyuzhnyy on the No. 5 court 6-1, 6-2 to pull the Rams within 2-1 in the match.
- At the time South Florida clinched the match, the Rams' Vitor Lima led Peter Bertran 7-6 (7-1), 3-2 on at the No. 3 position, and sophomore Louis Ishizaka was locked in a dead heat with Everth Dzib at No. 6. The players split the first two sets and were tied 1-1 in the third when the match was called.
- Michael Voscek and Catalin Fifea were also victorious on the No. 3 doubles court. They topped Sebastien Butler and Ignacio Gonzalez Mun, 6-4.
