The Short Story: VCU women's hoops cam from behind, erasing a 15-point deficit to win the Battle of the Rams, defeating Fordham 61-51 on Wednesday for their second-straight home win.
OPENING TIP
- Keira Robinson paced the Rams with 15 points and Adaeze Alaeze chipped in 14. Both players recorded three steals. Alaeze dished out three assists and grabbed two boards.
- Jessica Ogunnorin scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.
- Ashley Pegram and Curteeona Brelove also put up eight. Alaeze, Ogunnorin, Pegram and Robinson all came up with three steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 15 points at the half, VCU remained resilient and stormed out of the break with on 14-0 run to cut the Fordham lead to one.
- VCU held Fordham to just five points in the third and continued to stymie the Rams in the fourth quarter.
- After a Fordham opened the fourth with a three-ball, VCU countered with a 17-0 run, to take an eight-point advantage that they would not relinquish. Fordham did not score a point for a span of seven minutes.
- The Rams chipped at VCU's lead, but the Black and Gold held on for a 10-point victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Rams forced 20 turnovers and have forced double-digit turnovers in each game this season. The Black and Gold lead the A10 in turnovers forced, turnover margin, and steals.
- VCU came up with fourteen steals and scored 21 of their points off of Fordham mistakes.
- VCU outscored the Rams in the paint 30-14 and the bench chipped in 16.
- With the win, the Rams picked up their first win against Fordham and moved back to .500 in the Atlantic 10.
