How It Happened
  • Both teams had chances early with senior Kailyn Slade getting loose along the end line and speeding past Virginia Tech defenders, but her shot went just wide.
  • The two teams would battle for momentum for the first 35 minutes before the Hokies got on the board in the 37th minute when Alani Johnson found the back of the net.
  • Less than a minute later, Johnson struck again to quickly make it 2-0 in favor of Virginia Tech.
  • The Hokies pushed their lead to 3-0 in the 66th minute off a goal from Laila Gray.
  • Slade would try and create some magic in the 71st minute, speeding down the left sideline, but her cross into the box was knocked away to keep VCU off the board.
  • VCU would lock down defensively and keep the Hokies off the board the rest of the night, but would ultimately fall, 3-0.
