OPENING VOLLEY

KEY MOMENTS
  • VCU got off to a slow start offensively, hitting .000 in the opening set. Despite their troubles, the Rams raced out to a 13-6 advantage in the opening frame. But Fordham roared back with seven straight points. Neither team led by more than two until Fordham used three straight, including a kill and service ace by Olivia LaPorta to snap a 22-22 tie.
  • The Black and Gold jumped to a 3-2 lead in the second, but Fordham came alive and scored 10 of the next 11 points to take command.
QUOTABLE
  • "We just didn't get rolling from the get-go today. Fordham came out aggressive, and we were playing catch-up in that sense. Kalah Jones did a nice job playing middle today for the first time and it was good to see her adapt to that role. We just couldn't find our rhythm today. We need to get back in the gym and regroup and have a good week of practice and get ready for next weekend." – VCU Coach Jody Rogers.
WHAT'S NEXT
VCU returns to the friendly confines of the Stuart C. Siegel Center, where the Rams will host George Washington on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
