Opening Volley
  • Senior Kalah Jones returned to the lineup with 14 kills and five blocks, but it wasn't enough as the VCU volleyball team dropped a 3-1 road decision to a red-hot Rhode Island squad. URI has now won eight straight matches.
  • Freshman Sahbria McLetchie posted double-digit kills for the sixth time in the past seven matches with 12 on the night.
  • Redshirt freshman Indigo Thompson posted 30-plus assists for the fourth time in the past five matches.
Key Moments
  • URI jumped out to an early lead in the first set and held on to take it, 25-18, to grab a 1-0 advantage.
  • Rhode Island kept momentum on their side thanks to a big run to finish the second set. With the set tied 10-10, URI won 15 of the next 19 points to take a 2-0 lead.
  • VCU would turn it on after the break, putting together a run of its own to take the second set, 25-21.
  • The Black & Gold would not go easily. With URI leading 19-15 in the fourth set, VCU won four straight to tie things up at 19-19. The teams also were tied at 20-20, 21-21, 24-24, 25-25 and 26-26 before Rhode Island got back-to-back blocks to seal the win.
