Rams drop 1-0 road decision to Drexel

Box Score

The Basics

  • Score: Drexel 1, VCU 0
  • Records: VCU (1-5), Drexel (5-2)
  • Location: Drexel Athletic Complex – Philadelphia, Pa.
  • The Short Story: The VCU women's soccer team fired off nine shots and earned seven corners, but it wasn't enough as the Rams dropped a 1-0 road decision at Drexel. Senior goalkeeper Emma Kruse recorded four saves on the night and freshman Kelly Graves led the way offensively with three shots.

How It Happened

  • After trading possession early on, Drexel got on the board in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Graves tried to even things up just six minutes later, but a diving stop by the Drexel keeper kept things at 1-0.
  • The Dragons tried to extend their lead late in the first half, but Kruse was there to keep the Rams within one.
  • Freshman Nicole Malancone tried to get VCU on the board just before the break, but her shot was knocked away.
  • Neither team had many chances in the second half, but a late push by the Rams led to shot attempts by Dallas Smith and Graves, but neither snuck into the net as Drexel secured the 1-0 win.

Up Next

  • The Rams stay on the road for a Sunday afternoon match against in-state foe Liberty. Game time in Lynchburg is set for 2 p.m.
