  • The Short Story: VCU women's soccer (#4) hosted Fordham (#5) in the Round 1 of the Atlantic-10 Conference Tournament on Thursday. The top eight teams in the conference advance to the tournament, which is being held at Davidson. Despite winning possession, the Rams were unable to get things going on offense and were shutout 1-0.

How It Happened

  • VCU controlled possession early in the match, earning a corner kick in the first minute of the match. Freshmen Kelly Graves and Julia Suarez registering back-to-back shots in the 10th minute.
  • Minutes later, Fordham took advantage of one of their few opportunities in the match, scoring from just inside the box and jumping out to a 1-0 lead.
  • Senior Sharon Wojcik had VCU's best look in the first half, but hit the crossbar with her shot.
  • VCU continued to move the ball into the Rams' zone in the second half, but Fordham's defense would not relent, allowing the Rams to register just six shots in the contest.
  • Fordham almost took a 2-0 advantage, but Emma Kruse made a diving stop to keep VCU in the match.
  • VCU consistently moved the ball into the Fordham half, but could not get things going against the Rams defense.
  • Fordham entered the match having relented juts two goals in their previous four contests.
