OPENING VOLLEY

  • Atlantic 10 All-Rookie selection Sahbria McLetchie blasted 12 kills and dug seven balls, but it wasn't enough for VCU to hold off host George Washington in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship at the Smith Center.
  • Sophomore libero Rebekah Strange totaled 15 digs for VCU, an average of 5.0 per set.
  • The Colonials stormed to a 10-2 lead in the first set and never looked back. George Washington hit .333 in the match on the way to the win.
  • VCU hit just .119 in the match as it tried to crack the code of George Washington's back line. The Colonials registered 54 digs in the match.
  • Chidima Osuchukwu led George Washington with 16 kills.
KEY MOMENTS
  • VCU steadied itself after dropping the first set. McLetchie contributed a pair of early kills in the second as the two teams battled to a 9-all tie. But the Colonials ripped off five straight points and 11 of the next 14 to take control 20-12. Osuchukwu produced three kills during the run to lead the way
  • The third set followed a similar narrative. It was tied at 14-14 when the Colonials came alive behind three Aaliya Davidson kills and grabbed a 20-15 advantage.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

  • Senior outside hitter Kalah Jones, who was named All-Atlantic 10 Second Team for the third straight year Thursday, spiked eight kills Friday in the final match of her decorated VCU career. In three seasons, Jones recorded 1,118 kills, sixth-most in school history. She averaged 3.26 kills per set as a Ram, fourth-best all-time.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • VCU's 2015-16 season is complete.
