Rams Extend A-10 Unbeaten Streak to Three

  • The Short Story: VCU women's soccer hosted Atlantic-10 Conference rival UMass on Sunday. The Rams battled the Minutemen to a 2-2 draw to extend their unbeaten streak to three games.
 

How It Happened

  • VCU was aggressive to start the match, controlling possession and scoring twice in the first 20 minutes.
  • Sharon Wojcik found the net for the third in the 11th minute, dribbling thorugh defenders for her seventh score of the season. The senior has scored a goal in three-straight games for the Black & Gold.
  • Tied at the half, the Rams returned from the break with a renewed energy and dominated possession the rest of the way.
  • In the 18th minute, freshman Julia Suarez finished a loose ball that was played in by Tori Burress to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage. The goal was her team-high 8th of the season and fourth in the last three games.
  • The Rams defense shutout the UMass attack in the first half, but the Minutemen scored twice in a five-minute span early to start tie the match after the break.
  • VCU's offense created good opportunities late in the second half, but the Rams could not re-take the lead.
  • Senior Emma Kruse kept her team in the match with key saves down the stretch as the Black & Gold continued to play well against conference rivals.

The Rams return to action on Thursday, October 29 as they host Saint Louis in A-10 play on Senior Night at Sports Backers Stadium. Kick-off starts at & p.m.
