  • Short Story: A second half rally powered the VCU Women's Basketball team to a 62-53 victory over Davidson Thursday night. With the win, the Rams extend their home win streak to 12 games. Adaeze Alaeze paced the Rams with 17 points, while Isis Thorpe added nine and pulled down eight rebounds.

How It Happened

  • With the score tied at 8-8, Davidson's Hannah Early sparked an 8-2 run, as the Wildcat's grabbed their largest lad of the half, 16-10. A pair of free throws from Ashlee Mitchell followed by a layup from Isis Thorpe cut Davidson's lead to two, 16-14.
  • Monnazjea Finney-Smith connected on a shot from long range sparking the Rams to six straight points to put VCU ahead, 20-19.
  • Davidson was able to take a two-point advantage, 28-26 at the break.
  • The Rams rallied in the second half and capitalized on Davidson's cold shooting. The Wildcats finished the half 10-of-32 from the field.
  • Davidson wouldn't go quietly though, cutting the Rams' lead to four, but VCU was able to hold them off to secure a win.

Beyond the Box Score

  • Melanie Royster is seventh all-time with 72 blocks.
  • This is the third consecutive game that Adaeze Alaeze has scored in double figures, and the seventh time in the last 10 games.
  • The Rams have won all their games this season when they hold a lead with 5:00 remaining.
  • This was the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Davidson joined the Atlantic 10 Conference in July.
  • The win extends the Rams home win streak to 12, which is currently tied for 14th in the country.
