  • Records: VCU (4-3-3), Longwood (4-3-1)
  • Location: VCU's SportsBackers Stadium, inside HDL, Inc. Athletic Village
  • The Short Story: Sophomore Dallas Smith led an second-half offensive explosion as the VCU women's soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to four games with a 4-1 defeat of in-state foe Longwood. Smith tallied her first career goals in the second half to solidify the win for the Rams after seniors Brianne Moore and Jackie Ernest scored early second-half goals.
How It Happened
  • The first 35 minutes of the contest was a defensive battle with neither team mustering any offensive opportunities.
  • Longwood struck first in the 38th minute when Alex Askew put home a pass from Jacki Quast to give the Lancers a 1-0 advantage.
  • The Rams came out aggressive in the second half and senior Alex Gogolin drew a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. Moore stepped up and deposited her first goal of the season in the back of the net to even the score at 1-1 in the 51st minute.
  • Just over 10 minutes later, Kailyn Slade slid a pass to Jackie Ernest, who fired a shot over top of Longwood's keeper to give VCU a 2-1 lead.
  • Gogolin would start a beautiful goal by dribbling past two defenders, sliding a pass to Gabby Dyer, who found Dallas Smith in front of the net for her first career goal and a 3-1 VCU advantage.
  • Smith wasn't done as she collected a rebound six minutes later and fired her second goal of the match into the back of the net to give the Black & Gold a 4-1 lead.
