THE BASICS
  • VCU opened the home portion of its schedule in a big way, hitting a season-high .323 on the way to a 3-0 sweep of East Tennessee State.
  • Sophomore Kalah Jones led the dynamic VCU offense with 14 kills while hitting .250.
  • Senior setter Cecilia Aragao directed the Rams' attack to the tune of 33 assists and added 10 digs.
  • East Tennessee State hit just .062 against VCU, and the Rams out-blocked the Buccaneers 7-3.
  • Senior Janelle Sykes had a nearly flawless night in the middle for VCU. The Clifton, Virginia native spiked eight kills on 12 attempts and also logged four blocks.
  • VCU hit better than .300 in two of its three sets Friday night.
  • It was another strong night for VCU's back row.  Freshmen Rebekah Strange and Mary Kilbane were credited with 10 and nine digs, respectively, for the Rams, while Sami Blaze added nine of her own.  
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • VCU was in control from the outset. The lead changed hands just four times all evening.
  • The Rams recorded just nine hitting errors in the match.
  • Friday's win marked VCU's third win over ETSU in two seasons.
  • VCU is now 2-0 in home openers under Coach Jody Rogers.
WHAT'S NEXT
VCU will return to action for a pair of Saturday matches. The Rams will host Ball State – which won twice Friday – at 11 a.m. at the Siegel Center. Then, at 7 p.m., VCU will take on Virginia.
