VCU's Season Ends with 3-0 Loss to Dayton in A10 Tournament

Box Score

The Basics

  • Score: VCU 0, Dayton 3
  • Records: VCU (10-5-5), UD (11-8-2)
  • The Short Story: VCU's season comes to an end with a 3-0 loss in an Atlantic 10 semifinal match against the Dayton Flyers.

How it Happened:

  • Meghan Blank of the Flyers scored the first goal of the night in the 25th minute. After a Dayton shot was blocked by junior goalkeeper Emma Kruse, Blank found the loose ball and put it away for the first goal of the game.
  • The Rams were able to keep their deficit at one for much of the game, but UD's Ashley Campbell was able to add late insurance goals in the 81st and 86th minutes. Her first goal was the result of a blocked VCU clearing attempt, and her second goal came after a pass from her teammate gave Campbell a one-on-one with Kruse, in which Campbell came out on top.
  • VCU was not without chances, recording 14 shots and putting five on goal.

Quick Recap:

  • The Rams finish the season with a record of 10-5-5, the second time in seven seasons that VCU has reached double-digit wins in a season. It was also the second time in three seasons that the Rams made the semifinals of their conference tournament.
