  • Records: VCU (9-4-5, 5-1-2 A10), Dayton (9-8-2, 5-2-1 A10)
  • Location: Baujan Field (Dayton, Ohio)
  • The Short Story: The VCU women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six straight games with a 1-1 tie at Dayton on Sunday afternoon. By earning the point, the Rams locked up the second seed in this upcoming weekend's Atlantic 10 Tournament, which will be played in Dayton. Freshman Megan Dell had VCU's lone goal, while Emma Kruse registered nine saves in goal.
How It Happened
  • Both teams would test the keepers early. Sophomore Kailyn Slade nearly tallied her second goal of the weekend in the 15th minute, but the UD keeper came up with the save to keep it scoreless.
  • Dayton would turn around and fire three shots in less than a minute at Kruse, but all three times were stonewalled.
  • Dell struck in the 38th minute, heading a ball just inside the post off a beautiful cross from Gabby Dyer to give VCU a 1-0 lead.
  • The Rams would have opportunities, but were unable to extend the lead before Dayton's Ashley Campbell scored her league-leading 13th goal of the season to even the score at 1-1 in the 60th minute.
  • Dyer nearly found the back of the net in the 80th minute, but a Dayton defender was able to come up with the defensive save to keep the game tied and force overtime.
  • Dell would prove big in the first overtime, coming up with a defensive save and then forcing Dayton's keeper Heather Betancourt to make a diving save with less than a minute remaining.
