THE BASICS
- Seniors Janelle Sykes (10 kills) and Cecilia Aragao (40 assists) combined to lead VCU in a 3-0 rout of Davidson Saturday at the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
- Following a pregame Senior Day ceremony Sykes and Aragao, playing in their final home match, spurred VCU's offense to a season-high .409 hitting percentage. Sykes hit .533 on the day, committing just two errors in 15 swings. Aragao, meanwhile, continued her march toward 4,000 assists as she found VCU hitters in comfortable spots for kills. The Rams committed just nine hitting errors in the match and three players – Sykes, Nora Reed and Kalah Jones – provided at least nine kills.
- Jones led all players Saturday with 12 kills and hit .550 with 10 digs. Reed added nine kills and hit .400 with four service aces.
- There wasn't much that didn't go right for the Rams. VCU outdug the Wildcats 46-30, matched Davidson's block total and served up nine aces.
- Hannah Rau led Davidson with eight kills. The Wildcats hit just .097 for the match and totaled 25 kills.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With Saturday's win, VCU clinches the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Nov. 21-23 in Dayton, Ohio. Their opponent for Friday will be determined by the rest of this weekend's action. VCU's regular season is complete.
