HOW IT HAPPENED
- George Mason showed some early fight and took a 13-12 lead midway through the opening set. But kills by Jones and Sykes amid a 3-0 win shifted the tide toward VCU. The Rams would eventually stretch their lead to 23-17 with an extended 11-4 run.
- The Patriots never seriously threatened again in the match. VCU hit .424 and .250 in the second and third sets, respectively, on the way to healthy victory margins.
