Rams Dismantle Visiting Rhode Island Rams, 3-0

The Basics

  • Score: VCU 3, Rhode Island 0

  • The Short Story: VCU struck early and kept it up in the second half to take a 3-0 victory over the visiting Rhode Island Rams.

How it Happened:

  • Wojcik's goal came on a rebound from a shot by senior forward Maren Johansen. The shot was saved by the goalie, but left an easy rebound for Wojcik, who put it away with ease for her third goal of the season. 
  • Gogolin joined in on the scoring by netting her third goal off of a corner kick in the 55th minute to put VCU up 2-0.
  • The third goal for VCU came from the foot of Johansen, who chipped it right over the goalie's head into the net and gave the Rams a 3-0 lead in the 78th minute.
  • Senior keeper Emma Kruse and the VCU defense posted its sixth shutout in the past nine games. The six shutouts is tied for the most in the Atlantic 10. Since the start of September, VCU has a GAA of just 0.29.

  • This was the first of four consecutive road games for the Rams, who will return to the pitch on Friday, October 17 against Richmond in the second game of a double header with the men's team. Sunday afternoon, VCU will host Davidson for an afternoon game at 3:30 pm, and the Rams' home finale will take place on Saturday, October 25 against George Washington at 7 pm.
