HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshmen Romana Kriskova and Martina Samadan provided 19.5 points apiece as VCU captured its Atlantic 10 Conference home opener.
- Senior Kristin Boyd spiked 14 kills and moved into second place on VCU's career list (1,187). Boyd trails only Shannon McMeekin, who blasted 1,362 kills from 1991-94 for the Rams.
- Samadan was credited with 14 blocks (1 solo) and added nine kills and three aces. Samadan's 14 blocks are a career high and the most by a Ram in eight seasons under Coach James Finley.
- Kriskova was a perfect 7-for-7 hitting in the third set as the Rams surged to a 25-17 win to take control of the match. She finished with 17 kills and hit .344.
- VCU out hit Saint Louis .288-.120 and out blocked the Billikens 16.0 to 5.5.
- Cecilia Aragao handed out 46 assists and added eight digs and six blocks for VCU.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- VCU has won four straight matches and six of its last seven. The Rams have lost just one set in the last four matches.
- This was the first-ever meeting between VCU and Saint Louis.
- With Friday's win, VCU surpassed its victory total from the 2011 season. The Rams are 144-113 in eight seasons under Finley.
