VCU 105, UAB 88 (Feb. 25, 1980)
In the search for its first conference championship and NCAA bid, VCU left no doubt, torching the Charlotte Coliseum nets before cutting them down.
Led by Tournament Most Valuable Player Edmund Sherod, the Rams toppled fellow first-year Sun Belt member UAB to claim their first title.
Sherod and Danny Kottak scored 22 points apiece and six Rams scored in double figures overall for the Rams. Center Ken Jones supplied a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. VCU shot 62 percent (38-of-61) from the field on the way to victory.
