NINE IN-STATE MEETS HIGHLIGHT WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD SCHEDULE

RICHMOND, Va. – With one of the most highly touted recruiting classes in program history and a solid core of returners, the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s track & field team is prepared to do big things in 2009-10.

Now, the squad has their itinerary to do those big things as the Rams released both the indoor and outdoor schedule for the upcoming season.

Nine of the Black & Gold’s 20 meets will be take place within the Commonwealth of Virginia, including the 2010 CAA Championships at George Mason on April 30-May 1, 2010.

First, VCU kicks off the indoor season with the Christopher Newport University Holiday Open on Dec. 5 before heading to home for the winter break.

After a couple weeks at home, the Black & Gold aggressively return with six straight meets starting with the Navy Invitational on Jan. 16 and rolling straight through to the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 19-20.

The Rams have rejoined the ECAC in track and will conclude their indoor season with those championships on March 5-7, followed by the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 12-13.

VCU’s spring season gets started with the William & Mary Invitational (March 20), followed by a first-ever appearance at Vanderbilt’s Black & Gold Invitational on March 26.

After meets at William & Mary and George Mason, the Rams return home to host the VCU Invitational which returns after a one-year hiatus. The meet will take place at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium on April 17.

A trip up to the prestigious Penn Relays will help the squad prepare for CAA Championships the following weekend in Fairfax.
