Dr. Seth Cheatham has served as the Chief Medical Officer for VCU Athletics since 2021 and has been a team physician for VCU Athletics since 2009. He is a Professor in the VCU Health Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Medical Director of VCU Health Sports Medicine, and Program Director of the VCU Health Orthopaedic Surgery Sports Medicine Fellowship.
A recognized leader in sports medicine, Dr. Cheatham has been named a “Top Doc” in Sports Medicine by Richmond Magazine every year since 2013. His clinical practice focuses on the care of athletes of all ages and levels, and he has dedicated his career to advancing sports medicine through patient care, education, and leadership.
Dr. Cheatham completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at VCU Health before pursuing a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Kentucky. He earned his undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta.
Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Cheatham has fond memories of attending Nebraska football games and the College World Series with his family. Today, he lives in Midlothian, Virginia, with his wife, Pae, and their four daughters. His commitment to sports, education, and community continues to shape his work caring for student-athletes and active individuals throughout the region.
