GREENSBORO, N.C. – Just two meets into her career with the Virginia Commonwealth University women's cross country, junior Hayley Sullivan is already making an impact.

VCU rolled to a team championship at the Hagan Stone Park Invitational with Sullivan leading the way, capturing top honors at the Division I level.

"I'm really proud of our girls and the performance they put on this weekend," Director of Cross Country Nicole Cook said. "We've worked extremely hard in practice and it's great to see them executing what we've been working on. I feel like we're really putting the pieces together en route to our championship meet."

The Burke, Va. native blistered the five-kilometer course in 19:16.80 to grab first place, followed by classmate Nicole Walters who clocked in at 19:34.50.

Freshman Caitlin Hoffman had another solid meet, posting a time of 19:51 for third place with sophomore Hannah Leffew right behind her at 19:57.40 in fifth place.

Freshman Hailey Scheren rounded out the Black & Gold's top five with a time of 20:12.02, finishing sixth overall.

As a team, the Rams averaged 19:46.40 over the five-kilometer course.

VCU is back in action next weekend when they travel to the prestigious Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. Race time on Friday, Oct. 1 is set for 5 p.m.
