RICHMOND, Va. – One of the most, if not the most, decorated athletes in Virginia Commonwealth University athletics history became even more decorated on Thursday when Maria-Elena Calle was named to the Colonial Athletic Association's 25th Anniversary Women's Cross Country team.
The Cuenca, Educador native donned the Black & Gold from 1996-2000 and never finished outside the top-two at the CAA Championships, including two individual titles in 1998 and 1999.
For her accomplishments, she was named CAA women's cross country Athlete of the Year in both of those seasons.
Her success was not limited to just the CAA as she went on to finish as high as eighth at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, twice earning All-American status ('98, '99).
She was also a star on the track and field squad for the Rams, finishing her career with a total of six All-American accolades.
