VCU VOLLEYBALL ADDS THREE FOR 2019

RICHMOND, Va. – Kaelyn O'Brien (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge), Qairo Bentley (Denver, Colo./Denver East) and Veronica Brod Farias (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Martin Luther) have signed National Letters of Intent to join the VCU Volleyball program in 2019, Rams' Head Coach Jody Rogers announced Tuesday.

"This group of three will enhance the depth of talent that we return in 2019," said Rogers. "Kaelyn O'Brien, Qairo Bentley, and Veronica Brod Farias. Each of them comes with the desire, attitude, energy, and expectations that will continue to foster our culture here at VCU. They are accomplished student-athletes that I believe will compete and challenge our gym immediately. As a coach, I look forward to seeing these young ladies grow daily while embodying what it takes to be a great teammate."

Here's a look at VCU's class of 2019:

Kaelyn O'Brien l 6-1 l Setter l Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge (Metro Volleyball Club)
Fast Facts: All-Cardinal District Player of the Year… All-6A Region
Coach Rogers on O'Brien: "Kaelyn possess a desire to better herself everyday. Being a 6-foot, left-handed setter, she adds an offensive threat. Her ability to run a fast-paced offense with tempo will compliment our system well. She's a tough kid who can handle pressure and we are looking forward to seeing that grow and translate to the next level." 

Qairo Bentley l 6-0 l Outside Hitter l Denver, Colo./Denver East
Fast Facts: Class 5A All-State First Team… Led Denver East in kills and was among team leaders in digs.
Coach Rogers on Bentley: "Qairo Bentley is a fierce competitor. Her ability to play six rotations will be an immediate asset to our program. Her hate-to-lose attitude and drive will magnify the culture we have already established here at VCU."

Veronica Brod Farias l 6-1 l Middle Blocker l Porto Alegre, Brazil/Central Florida CC
Fast Facts: Played two seasons at the College of Central Florida, where she was a two-time All-Mid Florida Conference First Team selection… Averaged 2.49 kills and 1.29 blocks, while hitting .329 in 2018.
Coach Rogers on Farias: "Veronica will add a high level of experience to the middle position. Her high IQ and ability to see the floor while in flight will add another dimension to our up-tempo offense. Her contagious energy and work ethic are exactly what we need in 2019."
