The short story: Juniors Vicky Giommarini and Gina Tuzzolo combined for 20 kills as VCU capped its weekend with a sweep of Southern Miss Saturday.


  • Giommarini ripped 10 kills on 22 swings and hit .409 for the Rams. She also dug six balls and recorded a solo block
  • Tuzzolo also booked 10 kills and hit .316
  • On the back row, junior Madalon Simpson picked up 16 of VCU's 35 digs on the day
  • Junior Jasmin Sneed hit .500 and produced four blocks for the VCU cause, while sophomore outside hitter Paula Neciporuka kicked in seven kills and four digs
  • Three Southern Miss players supplied nine kills, including Chandler Marshall, who also hit .467


  • VCU was dominant wire-to-wire. The Rams hit a season-high .333 in the match, including .419 in the first set on the way to a 25-19 win
  • The Rams led the Eagles in nearly every statistical category, including a 6-3 advantage in blocks and a 35-34 edge in digs. VCU also served up fives aces
  • Southern Miss hit just .162 in the match


  • Sneed and Neciporuka were named to the All-Tournament Team following their weekend efforts. Sneed hit .484 in three matches and averaged 1.70 kills and 1.40 blocks per set. Neciporuka averaged 1.60 kills and 1.10 digs, while hitting .227
  • Senior middle blocker Tori Baldwin was credited with one block in Saturday's nightcap. With 433 career blocks, she needs just two more to pass Kelsie Clegg (434) on VCU's career list

VCU will travel to Blacksburg, Va. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, where it will lock horns with Virginia Tech at 6 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum. That contest will be broadcast on ACC Network Plus.
