RICHMOND, Va. – Gina Tuzzolo has been named the Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the week. Tuzzolo tallied a team-high nine kills in Friday's win over George Washington. She would add 12 more in a sweep of George Mason on Saturday while hitting .455.
The sophomore out of Newport News, Va. has eight matches with double-digit kills on the season, and has been an integral part of a Rams team who's win streak currently sits at 18.
"I feel like I've gotten a lot more comfortable on the court. I think it just goes with having the experience of last year."
Tuzzolo was one of eight freshman brought in last year, each of which returned for their sophomore campaign. "I think having that year together to learn how to work together and communicate has just put us in a good position this season," Tuzzolo said.
VCU has yet to drop a set in conference play this season, but faces a challenging weekend ahead. "Rhode Island and Fordham will have some fire, but I know we've really been looking forward to the Dayton match, playing them and seeing how things might play out in the tournament.
