The short story: Junior middle Tori Baldwin smashed 12 kills, provided four blocks and hit .500 to spur VCU to a 3-1 win over Sam Houston State Saturday morning in the Texas A&M Invitational. 

OPENING VOLLEY

  • Baldwin's effort highlighted a VCU offense that hit .278 in the match.
  • Sophomore Vicky Giommarini added 10 kills, while three others spiked at least seven.
  • Sophomore setter Dajah Ard handed out 25 assists and dug 13 balls for the Black and Gold.
  • Sophomore Jasmin Sneed was party to four of VCU's eight blocks in the match.  She also registered seven kills.
  • Junior Julia Adler hit .500 and contributed eight kills to the VCU cause. She committed just one hitting error in 14 attempts.
  • Jordyn Vaughn provided 14 kills to lead Sam Houston State.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • VCU improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2013 with Saturday morning's win.
  • The Rams outblocked the Bearkats 8 to 4.5 and outhit Sam Houston State .278-.142.
  • VCU committed just 15 hitting errors in 133 attempts. The Bearkats committed 30 hitting errors and nine service errors.
  • Senior libero Rebekah Strange collected 12 digs to reach 1,300 for her career. She ranks seventh on VCU's career list and needs 13 more to move past Marisa Low for sixth all-time.
